2019 Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV Overview
The World's Best-Selling Plug-in Hybrid
(with up to $5,836 Federal tax incentive!)
It's a crossover with 4X4 off-road ability that uses both electric and gas power. Plug it in and use regenerative power to charge the battery, and fill it up (once in a while) at any gas station.
Charge at Home---Or on the Go
Outlander PHEV is the first plug-in hybrid electric vehicle with DC Fast Charging to give you an 80% charge in just 25 minutes. 240V home or public chargers will completely charge the batteries in just 3.5 hours, or plug in to a standard 120V outlet before bed and wake fully charged and ready to go.
Goodbye, Range Anxiety
With an electric driving range of 22 miles, you can commute to work emissions-free in EV mode. When you're cruising down the HOV lane and need a bit more power, Outlander PHEV will switch into one of its three hybrid modes so you can go as you please---for up to 310 miles.
In EV Mode,
the vehicle is powered
by the two electric motors,
and energy is supplied exclusively by the lithium-ion battery pack.
Select this mode for 100% electric-powered,
zero-emission driving.
In Series Hybrid Mode,
the gasoline-powered generator helps charge the lithium-ion battery pack and provides power to the twin electric motors. The system uses this mode when battery charge levels are low or when sudden acceleration is needed.
When additional power is required--like when driving uphill--a built-in clutch located in the front axle switches into Parallel Drive Mode. In this mode, the 2.0-liter gas engine drives the front wheels and feeds any excess electricity back into the lithium-ion battery pack.
Super All-Wheel Control
The Outlander PHEV's Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system was developed to bring out the full potential of the Twin Electric Motors. S-AWC optimally manages the Active Yaw Control (AYC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Active Stability Control (ASC) with Traction Control (TCL), for maximum performance, efficiency, traction, and driving confidence.
The SEL model combines the unique Twin Electric Motor system with Super All-Wheel Control, for performance that's efficient yet powerful. It comes loaded with impressive features, like a 7" Smartphone Link Display Audio System that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Blind Spot Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and front-heated leather-appointed seats for added luxury.
The GT model expands on the SEL's impressive offerings by adding advanced safety features such as Forward Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning, and a Multi-View Camera System that helps put everything in sight. And with a power sunroof and two AC outlets with a combined 1500W of power, you'll be all set for your next adventure.

  • Best SUV AWD out there

By ebworthen on Thursday, August 29, 2019

This is a beautiful vehicle. Do you want to spend $37,000 for a Honda or Toyota? Go ahead. I got my loaded AWD Outlander with Leather, Sunroof, etc., etc. for $27K. 10 year 100,000 mile warranty, made in Japan quality. Smooth ride, high quality, great sound system, tons of room, 36 MPG on my mixed city/highway commute. Notice the difference between KBB ratings and OWNER ratings. Why? KBB, Edmunds, Consumer Reports - they rate based on perception, not reality. Look at the Ketchup bottle at a restaurant, the plastic bottle is colored red. Why? To give you the perception that it is always full. Same thing with the hive mind. Come out of the shadows and the cave.
  • Big Space, Great Value, So Reliable

We bought our Outlander from Avis Car Sales. We've had it for two years. Besides regular oil changes, we have not spent one penny on any thing! We love Toyotas but this was so much cheaper than the Highlander or even the Rav4 and is just as reliable. We've carried seven people in it numerous times. We've also carried 8 suitcases, four carry-on bags, and lots of baby equipment. The engine is a very clever 4 cylinder mated to a CVT. It is smooth and the mileage is great though acceleration is limited. Brakes have been very reliable. It's small on the outside, big on the inside. Will probably go right back to Avis for out next car -- another Outlander!
  • 130k Miles - Underated considering an awesome SAWD

By RickO on Saturday, February 16, 2019

I bought it because of the driver room that isn't offered in most SUVs this size. I am 6'4" and large and didn't fit well in other midsized SUVs. So I drive this about 30k miles a year have done trips in it and I really drive it hard. I do my own oil changes so I can tell you that after 130k in hard freeway driving it still does not use oil. If I totaled it tomorrow I would replace it with another just like it. I have not used the 3rd row but it is nice to have just in case. The Rockford Fosgate system is very nice but not quite the sound quality of a Bose. You can rattle windows with it though and if you like Base you will like that system. When you drive these cars you cannot be afraid to really give the gas and run it between 3500 - 4500 rpms to get the performance. I do this regularly and just keep up on oil changes and it will be fine. People who say it has no power basically don't understand how to drive this car. If you test drive one, put your foot into the gas pedal, you won't hurt it trust me. I have owned 4 Subaru cars and the AWD system on the Outlander is very good but does not quite equal the Subaru in snow and slick roads. However on curves and just handling in general, the Outlander AWD is superior IMO to the subaru because of the Outlander SAWD ability to handle the body role on curves. You should research this if you are serious about one and if you drive in curves, mountains etc. I would prefer the Outlander if I did. Also, the AWD systems in the Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans etc do not equal the Outlander SAWD and there is information out there to support this if you look.
